I am a third year PhD student under the supervision of Jim Howie, with second supervisor Nick Gilbert, at Heriot Watt University. My PhD is funded by EPSRC. My research currently focuses on geometric group theory; specifically: solving the generalised conjugacy search problem in relatively hyperbolic groups. Recent work My Senior Honours project on algebraic graph theory A Maple-based project on solving the "n-Queens" problem (This will only work if you have a copy of Maple installed. Right-click, save target as...) "On mathematical notation" - a short essay for non mathematicians. Teaching Each academic year I help to tutor various mathematics courses run by the university. I've completed a teaching course at the university, known as LEADS, which will give me "Approved Teacher" status by the end of the academic year 2011/2012. I'm a registered scribe/reader for the university disability service. I also offer private tuition in mathematics, for both undergraduate-level and pre-university education. Email me if you wish to enquire about private tuition. Conferences, meetings, courses and workshops attended (Or "Where do I know her from?")
Extracurricular activities I'm currently trying to find a solution to the Barrel Puzzle, designed by Nintendo in 1980. This website, by the way, is an excellent resource for these puzzles, as it has JavaScript models of many of them. Fun fact: I'm first-aid qualified (Level 2 Emergency First Aid). I'm hoping to start learning British Sign Language in 2011 A presentation I've made on basic navigation (Powerpoint slides) I recently gave this presentation on Astrobiology at a PhD student seminar. University of St Andrews Mathematics Graduates 2009 A useful tutorial on how to make Beamer presentations. [Department of Mathematics] |
