Hello. I was PhD student at Heriot Watt from Oct 2004 - end 2008, my supervisor was Bernd Schroers. I would recommend Heriot-Watt as a place to do a Postgraduate degree to anyone; I made loads of friends here, the department (i.e. lecturers, administrative staff and other postgrads) are all very friendly and helpful, and Edinburgh is a brilliant city. If you are a prospective student and have questions for someone who has been through and come out the other side, do feel free to email me (address above is hiding from spam robots so you'll need to type it.)

Academically, I'm interested in topological solitons, particularly magnetic monopoles, Skyrmions and Ginzburg-Landau vortices. I did undergraduate maths and Part III of the Tripos at Pembroke College, Cambridge. My Part III essay was on the representation theory of supersymmetry and superconformal symmetry.

I used to organise EMPG Student Seminars which give some background for the EMPG (Edinburgh Mathematical Physics Group) main seminars. A small collection of ''helpful'' guides written by myself are a click away.
