Academic English (Recommended)
We offer taught post-graduate courses blending theory and applications. We have core courses and options in both pure and applied mathematics, statistics and scientific computing. These will prepare you for more in-depth study or to apply these skills in industry, commerce and education.
Optional interdisciplinary courses in financial mathematics, engineering mathematics, management and computing/IT.If you complete the MSc successfully you may consider the PhD Programme
The departments are highly rated: In the 2001 RAE exercise, Heriot-Watt University achieved grade 5s.
We have leading researchers in both Pure Mathematics topics such as analysis, algebra, topology, semi-group theory and Applied Mathematics such as numerical analysis, bifurcation theory, mathematical biology.
We are part of the Maxwell Institute for Mathematical Sciences partnership with Edinburgh University, and we share our research activities. There are currently 90 academic members of staff and 20 or so post-doctoral research fellows and research assistants in the Maxwell Institute.
