MSc in Applied Mathematical Sciences -

Welcome to the information page for our general MSc in applied mathematics, which is aimed at people who want to apply modern mathematics in their career. We are recruiting now for entry in September. The programme can be taken full time over 12 months or part-time over a longer period.

  • We can offer reduced fees through a School Scholarship, but we cannot pay living expenses.
(Form here. Deadline End May.) This will be competitive so we would be looking for excellent qualifications. Other funding is also available for Scottish and EU students eg through SAAS.

Click here for details of studentships and fees.

    The MSc Programme

We offer taught courses blending theory and applications. We have core courses and options in applied mathematics, statistics and scientific computing, and optional interdisciplinary courses in financial mathematics, engineering mathematics, management and computing/IT.

We offer weekly technical English language support if your first language is not English.

More details of the courses are given here.

The programme gives the backgroud to examine diverse problems such as the numerical continuation of buckling of cylinders (left) to travelling waves in noisy neurons (center and right).

The final part of the MSc is an extended project, giving the opportunity to investigate a topic in some depth guided by leading research academics, many with strong industrial connections, from our 5-rated mathematics and statistics groups. These projects may involve an optional industrial placement. Some possible projects.
