Abstract

In this review, we describe some of our recent contributions related to nonlinear localization of vibrational energy and electric charge in spatially discrete systems. We present some results concerning a polaronic charge transport mechanism in a DNA model, and on the existence and stability of polarobreathers solutions in the Peyrard-Bishop-Holstein model. Also, we review a lattice model for a neutral exciton (bound state of an electron and a hole) in a nanoring structure, and show that this neutral entity exhibits Aharonov–Bohm (AB) oscillations when the system is immersed in a magnetic field. Our results indicate a route to enhancing the possibility of experimental verification of the excitonic AB effect.
