
Social Programme
- Welcome Reception, Sunday 4 July 1999:
- complimentary to
all delegates and registered accompanying guests, this reception will be
held in Teviot Row on the Congress site. Wine and soft drinks will be served,
providing the opportunity to meet colleagues in a convivial atmosphere.
This reception is sponsored by Oxford University Press.
- Congress Reception, Tuesday 6 July 1999:
- will take place
in the Royal Museum of Scotland in Chambers Street close to the Congress
venue. This event is open to all delegates and registered accompanying
guests. It is sponsored by the
European
Journal of Applied Mathematics.
- Scottish Evening, Wednesday 7 July 1999:
- to be held in Teviot
Row, this event offers delegates the chance to sample traditional Scottish
fayre and entertainment. There will be a modest charge of £10 per
person. Tickets will be sold on a first come first served basis - book
early to avoid disappointment.
- Film Evening, Thursday 8 July 1999:
- a Scottish film will
be shown in the George Square Lecture Theatre. The event is open to all,
but please note that places are limited to 500 and entry will be on a first
come first served basis on the day.

Scotland has much to offer and you can be sure of a typically warm Scottish
welcome! We have organised two tours on Tuesday, 6 July 1999
for your enjoyment. These tours are also open to delegates. Please see the
registration form for booking details.
- 1. St. Andrews and Fife 0900-1700; £28 per person
- Departing from Edinburgh and travelling north over the River Forth with
spectacular views of the century-old rail bridge, you will pass through
the picturesque fishing villages of Fife before reaching St Andrews, home
of golf and Scotland's oldest university. On the return journey you will
visit Falkland Palace, a favourite house of Mary, Queen of Scots.
- 2. The Highlands in Miniature 0900-1730; £28 per
person
- This tour includes a visit to Stirling Castle, the centre of an area
made famous by Rob Roy and Braveheart. Then on to Callander and through
the Trossachs, a region of mountains and lochs, before reaching the village
of Aberfoyle where you can visit a woollen mill. The return journey includes
a short visit to the beautifully scenic Loch Lomond.
All prices quoted are per person and include coach transportation,
guide services and entrance fees to places of interest as indicated. The
prices shown also include VAT but please note lunch is not
included. All tours will depart from Appleton Tower on the Congress Site.
Please note: all tours are subject to minimum numbers being met and must
be booked no later than 28 May 1999.
