
ICIAM 99 will be opened by H.R.H. The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, K.G., K.T, who is a Joint Patron of the Congress. The Opening Ceremony takes place at McEwan Hall on Monday 5th July from 9.15-10.30am.
The Committee for International Conferences on Industrial and Applied Mathematics have established four prizes to recognise outstanding achievments in applied mathematics and these will awarded also at the Opening Ceremony. The Lagrange prize will be awarded to individual mathematicians who have made an exceptional contribution to applied mathematics throughout their career. The Lothar Collatz prize will be awarded to an individual scientist under 42 years of age for outstanding work in industrial and applied mathematics. The SIAM Pioneer Prize will be awarded for pioneering work introducing applied mathematical methods and scientific computing techniques to an industrial problem area or new scientific field of applications. The Maxwell Prize which is funded by the IMA and the James Clerk Maxwell Foundation is to provide international recognition to a mathematician who has demonstrated originality in applied mathematics.
